Yet, there are several key areas of the face that most influence how old we appear. Below are some of these factors that most dramatically age you and how you can combat them:

Skin Texture and Tone

In youthful skin, typically there’s an evenness in the color, texture and overall appearance of the complexion, but as we get older, that begins to change.  The aging process leads to the development of uneven texture and pigmentation. Skin may become rougher, duller, and discolored, losing resiliency. Damage to the skin begins to appear.

A more balanced, youthful appearance can be restored through skin resurfacing methods, such as chemical peels and fractional laser treatments. These therapies are designed to remove the damaged outer layers of skin, while stimulating the regeneration of skin cells and collagen. They work to restore and renew the skin’s texture and tone, and improve discoloration—giving you a smoother, brighter, and overall healthier complexion.

Wrinkles and Sagging Skin

Over time, the internal structure of our skin begins to breakdown and weaken. The underlying tissue and muscles lose their youthful firmness and elasticity. Our skin becomes looser and more susceptible to gravity. As a result, skin begins to stretch and sag, accelerating the appearance of wrinkles.

Different types of lifting procedures can address sagging and wrinkles. A facelift can remove excess skin, and tighten the skin and muscles. It also reinforces the structures that hold skin in place—essentially, putting your skin back up where it used to be and smoothing out wrinkles to restore a more youthful look.

Volume Loss

Volume loss is another major aspect that can really age the face, as the  skin becomes less plump and loses youthful fullness. This creates more wrinkles and folds and can cause hollow, sunken looking spots around the checks and eyes.

Injectable facial fillers can help correct this by filling in lines and creases, and restoring volume to these trouble zones.

The Eye Area

The eye area, in particular, is one of the major places prone to really showing effects of aging. This can be especially noticeable because the eyes are a facial feature we tend to pay a lot of attention to in people. We communicate with our eyes and look people in the eyes in conversation, for example.

There can be several different types of trouble zones surrounding the eyes. The upper and lower eyelids can develop excess skin, causing them to droop and contributing to a haggard, tired appearance, or even potentially obstructing vision.

The lower eye area can develop bags or pockets of puffy, excess fatty tissue. In some individuals, the reverse can also happen. The under-eye area can lose volume, creating a hollow, sunken appearance, or dark circles.

Treatments that help improve signs of aging in the eye area can include, some combination of an upper or lower eyelift, muscle tightening and facial fillers. These can dramatically change and improve the look of the eyes, creating a healthier, more awake, and overall refreshed appearance.
